Apollo Scout Troop

Due to Covid-19 our normal face to face programme has been suspended and meetings are taking place online. We hope to resume an outdoor programme in the Summer or as soon as restrictions are eased. Please see our Covid-19 response page for further information and to see how Scouting is continuing.

Meetings

Apollo Scouts usually meet Monday evenings between 7.00pm and 9.00pm. We run a year round programme and love to get outdoors so are prepared for the weather.

We are an active group with a highly skilled leader and support team offering a varied programme that includes:

  • Numerous outdoor pursuit activities including;

Archery, Climbing, Shooting, Kayaking, Sailing, Cycling, Swimming and Hiking

  • Learning and craft activities to create things, develop our skills, knowledge and experience in areas such as;

Wilderness Survival, Fires, Outdoor Camping, Knots, DIY, First Aid

  • We also play plenty of games!

Outside of the normal meetings you can also get excited about the seasonal camping trips and events;

      • Escape and Evasion and our annual camp in the Wye Valley to name a few.

Programme

Apollo Scouts meet on a Monday night. So what do scouts do?

Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities as part of their programme. “Participation” rather than meeting set standards is the key approach and for the Scout who wants to be recognised for his or her achievements there are a number of Challenges Awards and Activity Badges. Scouts take part in a balanced programme that helps them to find out about the world in which they live, encourages them to know their own abilities and the importance of keeping fit and helps develop their creative talents. It also provides opportunities to explore their own values and personal attitudes

Being outdoors is important and half the Programme is given over to taking part in both the traditional Scouting skills, such as camping, survival and cooking as well as the wide range of adventurous activities, anything from abseiling to yachting.
