Centenary of Scouting In Wendover

Next year sees 100 years of Scouting in the village. The first recorded information about Scouting in the village was documented as a talk and is recorded as "An Entertainment, in aid of the funds of the Incorporated Church Scout Patrol (local branch) will be given on Wednesday evening, April 19 1911 in the National Schoolroom, when Mr W F Blood will show, by the aid of the lantern, 100 slides of photographs of The battlefields of Natal, including scenes in Ladysmith during the siege, spion kop, Colenso, etc..... Well you may not have been here for that particular talk, but I am sure a lot of people still have fond memories of the current scout group which has operated since 1950 being restarted by Ernest Baulk (former Chairman of Wendover Parish Council) with a well loved Cub Leader Kath Lehmann running the cubs. From that point as they say it is history. The group has gone from strength to strength with now over 200 young people offered the chance to experience the excitement of scouting We plan to hold several events next year, not only giving the current membership a chance to celebrate this mile stone, but also former members of the group. Watch out in Wendover news for more information or keep an eye on the website
